Samsung Electronics America Inc. prevailed against nearly all claims by consumers alleging defective hinges on its Chromebook convertible laptop. The plaintiffs made four attempts to amend deceptive and false advertising claims under New York's General Business Law but failed to provide sufficient factual allegations to state a claim for relief under the NYGBL. The federal court in New Jersey rejected the consumers' allegations as deficient. The plaintiffs consisted of three consumers from New York, Missouri, and Oklahoma who alleged that Samsung misled consumers about the product.
