Michael Gaine murder accused warns solicitor of his injuries -'Don't be shocked when you see marks'
"Mr Mann told The Kerryman, 'I was on a phone call on Tuesday morning from him, just to confirm he was on the video link Wednesday morning, which he said he was. And he said, 'don't be shocked when you see the marks on my face'.'"
"'I said, 'Are you ok now?' And he said, 'I am. I was on the top floor and now I'm on the bottom floor in a cell on my own'.'"
"'It's my intention to make inquiries to get more details,' said the solicitor. 'I'm not going to allege anything until I find out what the facts are.'"
"As of Wednesday, Cork Prison had 304 beds with 99 mattresses on the floor, according to the Irish Prison Service."
Michael Kelley, 54, is in custody facing a murder charge related to an incident at a farm in Carrig, Kenmare. He informed his solicitor about injuries sustained during an incident in his cell. Kelley assured his solicitor of his well-being despite the injuries. The Irish Prison Service does not comment on individual cases. Cork Prison is currently over capacity, with many inmates remanded in custody. The prison service has plans to increase capacity significantly by 2031, with a budget allocated for new spaces and modernization.
