A federal court has overturned President Trump's executive order aimed at Perkins Coie, declaring it unconstitutional in a significant ruling by Judge Beryl A. Howell. The executive order, which sought to punish Perkins Coie for its role in representing Hillary Clinton, has been deemed the first of its kind in U.S. history. This ruling not only nullifies the order but also mandates the Trump administration to restore services to the law firm and cease investigations. Judge Howell emphasized the order's unprecedented nature and its harmful implications for democratic principles.
Trump's executive order, she added, offers a new twist on that Shakespearean phrase: Let's kill the lawyers I don't like.
Executive Order 14230 is unlawful, null and void in its entirety and therefore should be disregarded, Howell wrote in the order.
