Fremont man kills registered sex offender in targeted stabbing, investigators say
"They're like sitting ducks in so many ways in fact, I'm shocked that we don't hear more of these types of offenses out there,"
"He told the police he was looking for sex offenders and people who were elderly, which means he was cognizant of the fact that someone couldn't fight back and they're particularly vulnerable,"
"sought someone 'worthy' of being killed, believing that the worse their original crime, the more justified the murder."
"He's young, he's preying after (someone who is) 71 - there's something going on in that guy's head. I guarantee you that there's going to be significant psychological evaluations done, I mean he's being charged with capital murder"
Fremont police are investigating the fatal stabbing of 71-year-old David Brimmer at his Solstice Court home. Brimmer was a registered sex offender with prior convictions for sex crimes against children. Investigators say a 29-year-old suspect used the Megan's Law website to locate potential victims, posed as an accountant while canvassing doors, and identified someone he considered "worthy" of being killed. A violent struggle occurred and Brimmer was chased into another home. The suspect told police he sought elderly sex offenders and has been charged with capital murder; significant psychological evaluations are expected.
