Craig Daley, a corrections officer in Edgartown, had domestic assault and rape charges against him dropped after he pleaded not guilty at arraignment. Arrested in December, his case concluded on April 11 with these charges dismissed. Following his arrest, he was placed on administrative leave from the Dukes County Sheriff's Office, which is undergoing an internal investigation. Daley's attorney remarked on the quick judgment faced by Daley and noted the enduring impact on his reputation despite the resolution of the case.
Mr. Daley is grateful for the diligence of the prosecutors in the Cape & Islands District Attorney's Office who, after looking at all the facts and circumstances, came to the conclusion that the continued prosecution of Craig on these spurious allegations was not in the interest of justice.
All too often, there is a rush to judgment in these cases once the person is arraigned and his name appears in the paper. That happened to Craig, and Craig's reputation will never fully recover because of it.
