WV Governor Scraps DEI, Signs Vaccine Exemptions on Second Day in Office
Briefly

West Virginia Democratic Party Chair Mike Pushkin criticized the actions taken by Republican Gov. Patrick Morrisey as a "troubling example" of government overreach that could have lasting negative effects on the state.
Pushkin emphasized that Morrisey must recognize he is the governor for everyone, stating, "The newly elected governor of West Virginia needs to remember that he's the governor for all of us, even people who don't necessarily have the same beliefs as him and also people who don't look like him."
Transgender activist Lazarus Orr voiced his concerns about Morrisey's priorities on X, asserting, "A reminder that [Morrisey] doesn't care about West Virginians - his priority is lining his pockets and dismantling the few protections our marginalized communities have left in this state."
In his announcement of the executive orders, Morrisey pointed to the recent far-right ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court regarding affirmative action, which has influenced his administration's review of diversity initiatives.
