Barney Frank, a former Congressman, criticized pro-trans rights advocates for turning sports participation into a litmus test for Democrats. He expressed disappointment that mainstream Democrats had previously resisted addressing equality issues. Frank noted that while he supports the end goals of equality, he believes that making controversial aspects of the agenda litmus tests is a mistake. At 86, he recently entered hospice care for congestive heart failure, and his health was visibly declining during the interview.
