Samantha Boucher, a transgender woman and Executive Director of Trans Liberty, staged a civil disobedience act in the Kansas State Capitol by using a restroom restricted by state law. This protest coincided with Transgender Day of Visibility and aimed to challenge a law that limits restroom access based on sex assigned at birth. Capitol Police did not arrest her, and Kansas Governor Laura Kelly expressed regret over the situation. The law also invalidates IDs reflecting gender identity, affecting many transgender residents.
