Rose Tagnesi served over 28 years and led a school district's Special Education Department for more than a decade before being abruptly demoted to a classroom teaching role. The demotion followed an unrelated sex-trafficking investigation at the school in which she was not implicated, and a subsequent inquiry that targeted her. She alleged an anti-LGBTQ+ school board majority launched a discriminatory campaign that included her demotion, LGBTQ+ book bans, and severing a contract with an LGBTQ+ mental health provider. Tagnesi reported being told to keep a "low profile" about her sexuality, receiving threatening texts, and being labeled a "witch." She later won a major settlement.
