Mika Brunold, 21, a 6'3" Swiss men's singles player from Winterthur, came out as gay on Instagram. He described years of work on his game, body, and mindset and emphasized that success requires discovering one’s personality and staying true to oneself. Brunold said hiding his identity was never an option and that he felt it was time to open up and share that he is gay. He stated that in an ideal world nobody would need to come out and noted the unique fears and challenges LGBTQ+ athletes face. Brunold is currently Swiss No. 6 with a 3-1 clay record.
