Stripe apologises after its employees claimed it had 'banned' LGBTQ+ purchases
Briefly

Stripe faced criticism when employees reportedly stated that its services were not available for purchasing LGBTQ+ content. Customers shared experiences claiming Stripe's support representatives said transactions for LGBTQ+ content were prohibited. The situation heightened concerns after similar issues arose with gaming platforms removing adult video games under pressure from payment processors. An artist detailed interactions with Stripe's customer service where operators confirmed restrictions. In response, Stripe apologized, clarifying that there are no bans on LGBTQ+ content sales and committed to ensuring accurate information in future inquiries.
'To be clear, I was very clear in asking, 'Can I use Stripe for purchases of LGBT content', and both times, different operators have told me that Stripe does not support such transactions.'
'I called the customer service line to voice my concerns, and I was told in two separate calls that purchases of LGBT content were not supported by Stripe.'
A member of Stripe's customer service said, 'Stripe has restricted purchases of non-explicit, legal, non-adult LGBT content,' which raised concerns about age-appropriate content.
A Stripe spokesperson stated, 'Stripe has no prohibitions on the sale of LGBTQ+ content or goods. We're looking into this and making sure future inquiries are answered correctly.'
