During a recent House Oversight and Government Reform hearing, Rep. Nancy Mace used a derogatory anti-trans slur, prompting Rep. Gerry Connolly to request a parliamentary inquiry. Connolly criticized Mace for using language that offends the LGBTQ community while discussing funding for international programs. Mace, however, showed no remorse for her words, insisting she wouldn't be counseled on gender spaces by a man. The exchange highlighted ongoing tensions in Congress regarding transgender rights and language, with Connolly advocating for more respect and decorum in political discourse.
"The gentlelady has used a phrase that is considered a slur in the LGBTQ community and the trans community," Connolly told Chairman James Comer.
"We can debate policy discussion without offending human beings who are fellow citizens," Connolly continued.
