Valentina Petrillo stated, "I often say, if I've done it, others can too. I hope to be the first of many, a reference point, an inspiration." Petrillo, despite narrowly missing out on the 1996 Paralympics, reflected on her journey: "I hope to be 'the first of many' transgender athletes competing at the Games." While the IPC clarified she won't be the first transgender Paralympian, her presence represents significant progress in representation and inclusivity.
