MAFS star confirms same-sex romance after split from TV groom
"I went to have a singing lesson with this woman and I realised pretty quickly that there was just a spark there. I stopped getting singing lessons from her because I didn't want her to be my teacher. We started just hanging out. It was a slow process... it took me quite a while to come out of the whole experiment and that experience... we're still together now."
"Suggesting that because I wasn't interested in this one man, therefore I must be a lesbian, it's a cop out, and it feels really harmful. Often bisexuals feel misunderstood and unseen, and this is just another classic example of this happening."
"Bisexuality as an umbrella term which describes a romantic and/or sexual orientation towards more than one gender. Bisexual people may also describe themselves using one or more of a wide variety of terms, including, but not limited to, bisexual, pan, queer, and some other non-monosexual and non-monoromantic identities."
Julia Vogl, the first openly bisexual bride on MAFS Australia, ended her marriage to Grayson McIvor and subsequently entered a same-sex relationship with a woman she met at a singing lesson. Vogl experienced biphobic comments during the show, particularly when McIvor suggested she wanted a woman, which she identified as harmful erasure of bisexual identity. She emphasized that bisexuality encompasses romantic and sexual attraction to multiple genders and that dismissing her lack of interest in one man as proof of lesbianism perpetuates misunderstandings. Vogl stated she has never been happier in her current relationship, which developed gradually after the experiment concluded.
