Los Angeles police won't stop man from throwing dog poop at LGBTQ+ youth center
"While we're deeply saddened by the targeted vandalism at our Mi SELA center, we refuse to let hate define our community,"
"Despite the current legal limitations to holding these actions accountable, the Latino Equality Alliance remains rooted in our core values of compassion and restorative justice."
"building power within the Latine LGBTQ+ community,"
Police in Bell, California identified a man captured on security cameras repeatedly throwing bags of dog feces at Mi SELA, a Los Angeles Latine LGBTQ+ youth center, but authorities are not charging him because the act was classified as littering. Officers said a citation requires an officer to witness the act and a hate-crime classification requires proof of motive; police have not spoken with the identified man. Mi SELA offers mental health, substance abuse, and legal counseling. LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn provided a $2,500 grant to upgrade cameras after dozens of bags appeared starting June 2025.
