Hendricks was a pioneering figure who founded The Inner Circle to aid LGBTQ+ Muslims in aligning their faith with their identities, aimed at fostering inclusiveness within Islam, which remains crucial following his tragic death.
A lot of unlearning needs to be done [but] it is possible to create a space in Islam where LGBTQ+ individuals can be accepted.
When it's happened to the first openly queer Imam, it has been a realization that it can happen to any of us.
