Kim Davis is trying to get the Supreme Court to overturn marriage equality
Briefly

A Kentucky county clerk, Kim Davis, has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to rethink the 2015 Obergefell ruling that established marriage equality. Davis, represented by the Liberty Counsel, faces damages awarded to a same-sex couple for her refusal to issue marriage licenses. She argues this violates her religious beliefs. The case aims to eliminate Obergefell and return marriage decisions to the states. The appeal follows a recent ruling against her by the Sixth Circuit Court, stating her liability stems from state actions, not free speech rights as a private citizen.
"It's not a matter of 'if,' it's a matter of 'when' Obergefell will be overturned," said Liberty Counsel's Matthew Staver, emphasizing the intent to challenge the landmark ruling on marriage equality.
Kim Davis has been seeking to have the Supreme Court reconsider her obligation to pay damages due to her refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
