Hateful vandals painted slurs on gay bars twice in 24 hours. Now police are hunting them down. - LGBTQ Nation
"A gay bar in Nashville, Tennessee was vandalized twice over two days with graffiti targeting the LGBTQ+ community, according to the bar's owner and Metropolitan Nashville Police. Steven Kiss, owner of Trax bar in the city's Wedgewood-Houston (WeHo) neighborhood, said staff discovered graffiti spray-painted across the back of the building just after 1:30 a.m. on Monday morning. Metro police responded to find several hateful messages written across walls and utility equipment behind the bar, including multiple instances of the word "f*g," other threatening language, references to self-harm, and the name "James." Kiss said no one associated with the bar has that name."
"The incident followed another graffiti attack at around 3:00 a.m. Sunday morning, according to . Both featured the gay slur "f*g" prominently. "To me, it's just a word. It has no more or less power than what you give it," Kiss told News 2. "It's vandalism. It's costing me money to remove it, and some people might be intimidated by it - and with Pride Month coming up, rightfully so.""
"A police report noted the back of the building is the only area around Trax that isn't covered by surveillance cameras. Kiss had a contractor on site just hours after the attack. Last year, Trax celebrated 20 years in Music City. In 2024, the bar lost its lease at its original location in South Nashville and moved into the growing WeHo area."
