Exclusive: Jim Obergefell endorses Angie Craig for U.S. Senate
"Angie has never backed down from a fight. While LGBTQ rights are at risk, we can count on Angie to stand up to these threats and do the right thing. Jim's fight for the ability to marry his husband protected the freedoms of LGBTQ individuals and guaranteed marriage equality for all people in our country."
"His leadership and perseverance through tragedy is the reason my own marriage is federally protected and recognized. Craig, a lesbian, said. Jim's fight for the ability to marry his husband protected the freedoms of LGBTQ individuals and guaranteed marriage equality for all people in our country."
Jim Obergefell, the lead plaintiff in the 2015 Supreme Court case Obergefell v. Hodges that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide, has endorsed Minnesota Congresswoman Angie Craig in her U.S. Senate bid. Obergefell praised Craig as a candidate who understands the personal and political stakes of LGBTQ+ equality and will defend these rights against current threats. Craig, a lesbian representing Minnesota's 2nd Congressional District, acknowledged that Obergefell's legal victory made her own marriage federally protected and recognized. Craig, first elected in 2018 after flipping a Republican-held seat, became Minnesota's first out LGBTQ+ person elected to Congress. The endorsement connects one of the most consequential LGBTQ+ court victories to Craig's statewide campaign.
