The law is the first in Europe - and the world - to provide sex workers with social security provisions such as pensions and maternity leave, as well as an official employment contract.
The legislation approved unanimously in Belgium gives sex workers access to social security provisions, protection from work-related risks, and restricts individuals with certain criminal backgrounds from becoming employers.
