Christian engineer sues L.A. County over Pride flag display at government buildings
"A supervisor rejected his request, according to the filing, noting the county was 'committed to fostering an inclusive workplace, including for our LGBTQ+ employees.' The supervisor suggested he use another entrance, Batman's suit claimed."
"Eric Batman, a 24-year veteran of the Department of Public Works, sued the county March 10 for refusing to let him work remotely in June, when the rainbow-striped flag hangs in front of his department's Alhambra headquarters."
"It's the second lawsuit to target the county's 2023 policy ordering the raising of the 'Progress Pride,' a modified version of the traditional rainbow flag with additional stripes representing people of color and transgender and nonbinary people."
Eric Batman, a 24-year civil engineer with L.A. County's Department of Public Works, filed a lawsuit after his request to work remotely during June was rejected by his supervisors. Batman claimed the Pride flag displayed at his department's Alhambra headquarters was offensive to his Christian beliefs. When denied remote work, he was offered an alternative entrance instead. This marks the second legal challenge to the county's 2023 policy requiring many government buildings to display the Progress Pride flag during June. A previous lawsuit by evangelical Christian lifeguard Jeffrey Little raised similar objections to the flag's presence in the workplace.
