Brisbane unveils world's largest trans flag for Trans Day of Visibility
""Trans and gender diverse people deserve the things we need to live good lives, like access to proper healthcare, secure housing and good jobs, and we deserve the same rights and protections under the law as everyone else.""
""The Queensland government must immediately end its cruel attack on the lives and healthcare of trans youth and reinstate care.""
""A physical symbol of trans love and joy and trans defiance and resistance" was how group member Jodie Hall described the flag during the lead-up to the event."
The largest transgender pride flag, measuring 800 square metres, was unveiled in Brisbane's Davies Park for International Transgender Day of Visibility. Created by the advocacy group Trans Justice Meanjin with the help of over 30 volunteers, the flag symbolizes both celebration and protest against the Queensland government's restrictions on gender-affirming care for trans youth. The unveiling reflects a response to policies that deny essential healthcare and rights to trans individuals, emphasizing the need for proper healthcare, housing, and legal protections.
