Sam, 27, a Zumba instructor and musician known as Smashby, identifies with a flexible gender expression and lists pronouns he/him, they/them and she/her. Sam explained a preference for being a personality as themselves rather than performing drag, describing a blended gender presentation as eye-catching and entertaining. Sam said they "live life as me" and are unbothered by labels, prioritizing others' comfort. Sam said they have become more vocal and visually expressive in recent years after gaining vocabulary and community. Housemate George raised concerns about a gender "ideology" influencing vulnerable children and mentioned people who "feel like they've been born in the wrong body," and Sam pushed back, correcting misinformation about healthcare for transgender youth while noting ambiguous genders have existed without past labels.
