The BBC issued an official apology to presenter Jack Murley for homophobic abuse he experienced while working at BBC Radio Cornwall. Murley said staff used slurs such as "poof" and "fairy boy" and that a colleague told him gay people are "a lot more likely to die of AIDS". A manager allegedly told him it was not his job to deal with abuse and instructed him to sound "less gay" on air. Murley was sacked in 2024 over social media posts, and an employment judge later ruled the dismissal reasonable.
