Austrian authorities arrested 15 individuals linked to a series of hate crimes targeting LGBTQ people, exploiting fake dating profiles to lure victims into assaults. Criminal investigator Michael Lohnegger reported that at least 17 victims were deceived into isolated areas where masked attackers assaulted them, often filming the incidents for online sharing. Joachim Huber, deputy police chief of Styria, emphasized that the victims were wrongfully accused of being pedophiles. The group of suspects, ranging from 14 to 26 years old, included various nationalities, and investigators suspect many more victims remain unreported. Weapons and Nazi memorabilia were seized during raids across Austria.
The suspects had tricked at least 17 people into going to remote locations, where several masked individuals attacked the victims, filming the assaults to upload online.
'None of the victims is a pedophile,' said Joachim Huber, deputy police chief of the state of Styria, highlighting the unfounded accusations made against the victims.
