In 2024 Britain's Lawn Tennis Association updated its rules to bar transgender women from competing in national and inter-club female competitions."
Aryna Sabalenka, the world No 1 and four-times Grand Slam champion, described transgender participation in women's sport as unfair because transgender women may have a biological advantage over female players. She said that women train their whole lives to reach their limits and should not have to face competitors who are biologically much stronger. The WTA permits transgender women to compete after four years living as female, lowered testosterone levels, and testing, with medical manager discretion. Nick Kyrgios expressed agreement. Britain's Lawn Tennis Association barred transgender women from national and inter-club female competitions in 2024.
