This nonprofit will deliver new, free homes to some L.A. fire victims
Briefly

After the Eaton Fire devastated their neighborhood, Ronald Dunlap and his wife evacuated their home of over three decades, which was destroyed. Despite their home insurance, they can only cover half the costs to rebuild due to skyrocketing property values. A new nonprofit, Steadfast LA, aims to assist fire victims by donating small prefab homes. With a generous donation of $15 million from Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia, the project hopes to alleviate housing challenges for lower-income victims of the fire.
We got a warning to be ready to leave, [but] we never got the warning to leave.”
For more than three decades, he and his wife had lived in a small, charming house originally built in 1912 as a maid's quarters.
But now Dunlap is hoping they may be chosen as part of a new project. A new nonprofit, founded in the wake of the fires, plans to donate small prefab houses to lower-income fire victims.
Joe Gebbia, one of the cofounders of Airbnb, is donating $15 million to the effort, which Steadfast LA plans to match with other donations.
