
Cher’s sky-high Los Angeles duplex reflects her Buddhist practice and irrepressible personality. She describes her houses as passions and decorative barometers of her evolving consciousness. She credits Buddhism with providing everything she needs and notes her devotion to Pema Chödrön. For the new duplex, Cher enlisted interior designer Martyn Lawrence-Bullard to create an atmosphere that feels ethnic, spicy, and romantic while staying in creams, ivories, whites, and buttery beiges. She prefers neutral colors, especially in bedrooms, for ease of living. The designer removed the existing 12-room layout and replaced it with two loftlike open floors connected by a spiral staircase.
