There is a glorious madness in the Paris Olympics, transforming the city into a stadium as if France, in its endless revolutionary ardor, had taken a century to reflect on something unimaginable: the transformation of a great city into a stadium.
The Olympic project is almost unthinkable in its audacity, but the Eiffel Tower would never have risen above Paris in 1889 if the many detractors had prevailed.
