Casa Tobi, designed by Mexican architecture studio Espacio 18, is a residential project located on a coastal slope in Oaxaca. Inspired by primitive architectural concepts, the design embraces traditional forms while maintaining a modern aesthetic. The structure features earthy materials, creating harmony with the arid environment and maximizing views of the Pacific Ocean. Inside, the layout is crafted to encourage both communal living and adaptability, with spaces flowing into one another and reflecting the lush surroundings. The home integrates with the natural terrain, enhancing privacy and connection with nature.
The house descends westward in staggered levels, framing expansive views of the Pacific Ocean and capturing the region's sunsets.
Espacio 18 organizes the home around a rhythmic play of compression and expansion, allowing the home to respond to shifting uses over time.
