Taqueria Chingón faced an unusual situation on its opening day in Fulton Market as a dust storm forced them to close their windows. Despite this start, customers relished the creative tacos offered at the new location, especially after the original site in Bucktown closed. Co-owner Oliver Poilevey noted various challenges faced during the restaurant's journey, including competition with established chains. With a revamped menu featuring classic tacos and new options, the restaurant aims to thrive, bolstered by local support and artistic touches, like a tribute mural by Rocio Urbano.
"That was a weird way to open," says co-owner Oliver Poilevey.
The opening menu at 817 W. Fulton Market brought all the classics: duck carnitas, chorizo verde con papas, and morcilla.
With a larger kitchen, Chingón has added to its menu.
Local artist Rocio Urbano is finishing up a mural for the space that includes a wall of remembrance that pays tribute to important figures in the staff's lives.
