A fire at the Mexican restaurant Chicatana resulted in significant damage after an electrical issue from the ice machine ignited around 2 AM. Thankfully, the restaurant was unoccupied at the time, and there were no injuries reported. The incident destroyed kitchen equipment and part of the bar, forcing the popular eatery to close indefinitely. Chef Marcelino Zamudio expressed concerns about insurance and future steps but remains hopeful for reopening. Meanwhile, nearby sister restaurant La Plaza remains open, with menu additions to support Chicatana.
Chicatana's sister restaurant, La Plaza, which serves Spanish food up the block, was unaffected and remains open. Zamudio says he will add some tacos to the menu there for people who want to show their support.
Chef and co-owner Marcelino Zamudio says it seems to have stemmed from an electrical issue with the ice machine.
