The Timberwolves provided a commanding performance in Game 1 of the NBA Playoffs, defeating the Lakers 117-95. Luka DonÄiÄ starred with 37 points, while the Lakers struggled, particularly LeBron James, who had a slow start with only 19 points. Despite a late-game rally from the Lakers that saw them cut a 27-point deficit, they couldn't threaten the Timberwolves sufficiently. A strong offensive display from Minnesota in the second quarter played a pivotal role in their victory, showcasing their playoff readiness against a lethargic Lakers side.
Doncic has seen 5 different Wolves already defensively, either initially or by calling up a big on a switch, and is up to 16 points on 5 of 10 FG's with 3 made triples and 3 FT's.Lakers lead 28-21.- Mike Trudell (@LakersReporter) April 20, 2025
The second quarter began with Jaden McDaniels scoring five straight. Minnesota jumped ahead by three as they were cooking offensively. The only Laker to score was Austin with a layup.
After trailing by as many as 27 points, the purple and gold rallied in the third and fourth quarters but never truly threatened the visitors, failing to even close the gap to single digits.
