D'Angelo Russell's interest in representing Lithuania for the national team stems from his partner's heritage, aiming for Olympic participation in 2028, despite existing roster limitations.

Mindaugas Balciunas acknowledged discussions with Russell's representatives but emphasized the complication of Lithuania already having a naturalized player, Ignas Brazeikis, on their roster.

While Russell may be a more talented player than Brazeikis, loyalty and FIBA rules restrict Lithuania to one naturalized competitor, complicating Russell's ambitions.

Given that D'Angelo Russell is unlikely to join Team USA, seeking citizenship to play for Lithuania could help fulfill his Olympic dream in 2028.
