Kerry King: Dave Mustaine and I "would have butted heads" had I stayed in Megadeth

In a recent interview, Slayer guitarist Kerry King discussed his early involvement with Megadeth, where he played second guitar for the band’s initial performances. Although already a member of Slayer, King's admiration for Mustaine led him to accept the role. He later expressed that he made the right choice by staying with Slayer, despite briefly considering joining Megadeth. King recognized potential conflicts that might have arisen between him and Mustaine's strong personality, ultimately indicating that both musicians were better off in their respective iconic bands.

"Well, I love Mustaine to this day. I think he's one of the greatest guitar players out there - still. So when I caught - I don't even remember how I heard that he wanted me to play second guitar to him. But I was flattered because even back then I thought he was awesome."

"I'm sure I probably did, but [Slayer] is where I belong. Absolutely made the right choice. Me and Dave would've butted heads like no tomorrow."

"It's just his personality. I mean, look how many people have been in his band. Fifty? And that's not me down-talking Mustaine. I like hanging with him for 20 minutes, and then you go away and 'I'll see you in a year.'"
