Roki Sasaki, the Japanese star pitcher, joined the Los Angeles Dodgers and took the number 11 jersey thanks to Miguel Rojas switching back to his original number 72. Rojas initially hinted at the change on Instagram, expressing his connection to the number from his MLB debut in 2014. Sasaki, who idolizes Yu Darvish, couldn't take 14 due to its retirement and 17 was worn by Shohei Ohtani. With a nod to tradition and respect, Sasaki expressed gratitude for Rojas's generosity in letting him wear number 11, signifying a deeper connection to his career's inspirations.
"I'm really grateful that a veteran like Miguel Rojas has let me wear number 11," Sasaki said through interpreter Will Ireton during his introductory press conference at Dodger Stadium.
"It's time" and "Back to the roots" were the hints Miguel Rojas provided on Instagram before confirming his return to jersey number 72.
