Koufax, named an All-Star seven times, won five ERA titles, three Cy Young Awards, an MVP, three World Series, and pitching triple crowns three times while earning two World Series MVP awards.
At the height of his career, Koufax, forced to retire at 30 due to arthritis, was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1972 at 36, becoming the youngest to achieve this. The Dodgers retired his jersey.
In 1968, on the same day as Koufax's milestone, Don Drysdale set the record for most consecutive scoreless innings pitched in Major League Baseball history.
