This Day In Dodgers History: Casey Stengel Hired As Manager
Briefly

Casey Stengel was hired as the Brooklyn Dodgers manager in 1934, taking over from Max Carey. Despite being a former fan favorite, Stengel's tenure was disappointing, as he failed to achieve a winning record in three seasons. After his time with the Dodgers, Stengel's managerial career saw little success until he joined the New York Yankees in 1949, where he became a legendary figure, winning five consecutive World Series and securing ten pennants over twelve seasons. Stengel's career would also include a stint with the New York Mets before his retirement in 1965.
On Feb. 23, 1934, Casey Stengel was hired as the new Brooklyn Dodgers manager to replace beloved Hall of Famer Max Carey.
Stengel remained Dodgers manager for just three seasons and never once had a winning record with Brooklyn.
After being fired by the Dodgers, Stengel managed the Boston Bees from 1938-1943, managing just one winning season during that span.
Nicknamed 'The Ol' Perfessor,' Stengel turned his managerial career around upon being hired by the New York Yankees ahead of the 1949 season.
