The Los Angeles Dodgers have a storied history of breaking racial barriers in Major League Baseball, starting with Jackie Robinson, who was the first African-American player in the league. This legacy continued with players like Don Newcombe, who made significant contributions to the team and the game. In honor of Black History Month, player Hunter Greene shared his gratitude for Newcombe, whose influence was profound both on and off the field. Newcombe earned accolades, including the NL Cy Young Award, and continued to impact the Dodgers organization after his playing career.
In celebration of Black History Month, I’m thankful to have connected with the late, great and beloved, Don Newcombe.
Winning the NL Cy Young and MVP in 1956, Newcombe put himself atop the best in the game.
