Mookie Betts Playing With 'Confidence' And 'Edge'
""I think what that means is there is real confidence, there's edge, just letting his ability play," Roberts elaborated. "I think we're seeing that at shortstop, and in the batter's box there's just that edge. "He's not in between, as he was for a lot of the season. That's what I mean when I say Mookie looks like Mookie right now.""
""But I do think for it to work collectively, whether it's building an inning with somebody in the middle of the order getting a hit, or situationally being good, or bleeding into the top to kind of create something for Shohei and Mookie to do something with guys on base. I think it just works together. The way we are right now, it shouldn't be a top-heavy lineup.""
Mookie Betts adopted a mindset of accepting a lost individual season on Aug. 8 and then heated up. In the 29 games since that date he hit .336/.395/.543 with four doubles, one triple, six home runs and 23 RBI. Manager Dave Roberts said Betts has regained confidence, edge and the form he displayed earlier, both at shortstop and in the batter's box. Betts extended a seven-game hitting streak and a 15-game on-base streak while delivering a grand slam in a four-hit game. The Dodgers emphasize middle-of-order production to complement Betts, Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman.
