Former MLB star Raul Mondesi is sentenced to six years and nine months in prison, and the payment of a fine of 30 million pesos (about US$500,000), for embezzlement of funds during his tenure as mayor of San Cristóbal, DR, in the period 2010-2016, Hector Gomez reported.
Mondesi was sentenced for corruption and mishandling of public funds for the first time back in 2017.
The prosecutor's office and the defense reached an agreement on his new sentence. With this agreement, Mondesi's time served has completed his sentence.
Mondesi began his MLB career with the Dodgers, unanimously winning NL Rookie of the Year in 1994. The two-time Gold Glove winner also spent time with the Toronto Blue Jays, the New York Yankees, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Los Angeles Angels, and the Atlanta Braves.
