"Edman's positional versatility was one of the factors that drew the Dodgers' interest and prompted their involvement in what became a three-team trade with the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox last year. However, lingering right ankle trouble has limited Edman's time in center field this season. He largely played second base to begin the year before the Dodgers felt comfortable enough Edman's ankle could withstand the demands of roaming the outfield."
"When Edman needed to go back on the injured list last month, he and the Dodgers made it a pint to not rush his rehab process. That was driven by wanting to ensure his availability for the postseason, and also so that Edman could fully recover and be an option in center field. When recently discussing his rehab process, Edman reiterated a goal is to be able to play center field upon returning."
The Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated Michael Kopech and Hyeseong Kim but continue to await returns from Tommy Edman, Max Muncy, Brock Stewart and Alex Vesia. Edman began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City, batting second and serving as the designated hitter in his first game since spraining his right ankle on Aug. 3. Manager Dave Roberts said Edman will largely DH and play center field in Oklahoma City to keep him in one spot during rehab. The team avoided rushing his recovery to preserve postseason availability and ensure he can handle center-field duties.
