Dodgers Pitcher Confirms He Won't Be Ready for Start of 2025 Season Due to Injury
Briefly

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Evan Phillips confirmed he will not be ready for Opening Day in 2025 due to a subscapularis tear. Despite this setback, he has reported significant recovery progress and feels physically ready to begin his bullpen sessions. The Dodgers are equipped with strong pitching depth, having signed notable relievers this offseason, which allows them to take their time with Phillips' rehabilitation to ensure he returns 100%. Last year was a down season for Phillips, evident in his ERA of 3.62 over 61 appearances.
"Physically, right now, I feel 100 percent," Phillips said to Dodgers Nation's Doug McKain. "Now it's just about building up, starting my bullpen progression, and trying to get as close to game ready as possible."
Phillips told Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register that "Opening Day is off the table" for him as he recovers from a subscapularis tear.
The Dodgers have immense depth in the pitching department entering the season, and will ensure Phillips is 100 percent before throwing him into action.
After sporting a 1.14 ERA in 2022 and a 2.05 ERA in 2023, Phillips had a disappointing 3.62 ERA over 61 appearances in 2024.
