Evan Phillips of the Los Angeles Dodgers will not participate in the upcoming Tokyo Series due to a shoulder injury. He is recovering from a rotator cuff tear, which limited his offseason training. Despite this setback, Phillips showed significant improvement during a recent bullpen session, impressing Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who noted he appeared to be in midseason form. While Phillips is expected to play a crucial role in the team's bullpen, the management is taking precautions to ensure his full recovery before returning.
It was the best one he's had. He used his entire pitch mix. ... Today was a big step in the right direction. If I hadn't known any better, he was in midseason form.
He's much better off, but we feel that given his workload, intensity of it, to start a little bit later, there's just not a whole lot of cost to that.
Phillips has progressed ahead of Kopech and could be activated 'some time in the first, second week of April is totally on the table,' Roberts said.
Phillips is expected to once again have a key role in the Dodgers' bullpen this season.
