Former LA Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías has been suspended due to violations of MLB's Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse Policy. Commissioner Rob Manfred stated the investigation concluded Urías violated these policies. Previously, Urías faced a 20-game suspension for domestic battery in 2019 and was placed on administrative leave following a recent arrest linked to a domestic violence incident outside an LAFC game. Throughout his career with the Dodgers, he held a 3.11 ERA and made significant contributions, including closing out the 2020 World Series.
'The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball has completed its investigation into allegations that free agent pitcher Julio Urías violated Major League Baseball's Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy. Having reviewed all of the available evidence, I have concluded that Mr. Urías violated our Policy and that discipline is appropriate.'
Urias, 28, last pitched for the Dodgers in 2023. The left-handed pitcher was suspended for the first time in 2019 for 20 games for domestic battery.
Then, in September 2023, he was placed on administrative leave in response to his arrest in a domestic violence case. The second incident occurred outside an LAFC soccer game.
Across eight seasons with the Dodgers from 2016-23, Urias went 60-25 with a 3.11 ERA. He got the final out of the 2020 World Series and finished third in Cy Young award voting in 2022.
