The Los Angeles Dodgers and manager Dave Roberts are reportedly close to finalizing a groundbreaking contract extension that could make him the highest-paid manager in MLB history. These discussions are ongoing as the team prepares for its season opener in Tokyo. Although contract talks have taken place throughout the winter, securing free-agent players was initially prioritized. With Roberts' confidence in reaching an agreement, the expectation is for a deal that exceeds the Cubs' Craig Counsell’s $40 million over five years. Roberts solidified his legacy after winning two World Series in four years.
"We've had conversations," said president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman in February. "We'll continue to, and when we have something to announce, we'll definitely do that."
"Obviously, I love being here," Roberts said. "I haven't shied away from that. I'm confident it's going to get done. Right now, being here, I'm just really focused on these guys and pouring into them and just trying to get better and do something really special for this '25 club."
