The Dodgers officially brought back Jason Heyward on a one-year, $9 million deal on Monday morning.
The 40-man roster, in short, is the list of players who can appear in a major league game at any point in the season. It includes the active 26-man roster, players on the injured list shorter than 60 days, and minor league players the club expects to make an impact during the season.
Bringing him back does fill the Dodgers' 40-man roster with still many holes to fill on the team.
