Blake Snell is nearing his return to the Dodgers, a boost for the team as they cope with multiple pitching injuries. Manager Dave Roberts announced that Snell would soon start throwing off a mound, aiming for a comeback. He hasn't pitched since early April but has been doing long-toss practice. Before his return to the big leagues, Snell is likely to face hitters in a simulated game or minor league rehab start. This season, he has only made two starts, demonstrating the team's need for his talent.
Manager Dave Roberts recently spoke about when Snell could be back on the mound for the Dodgers. Roberts intimated that Snell will start throwing off a mound 'sometime, really, (this) week makes sense.'
In the interim, Snell had been playing long-toss - throwing the ball up to 115 feet. Snell has not pitched in a game since April 2.
The idea is he'd face hitters in some sort of setting, whether in a simulated game or perhaps in a rehab start in the minors, before coming back up to the big club with the Dodgers.
On the year, Snell has only made two starts. He kicked off the home opener in L.A. versus the Detroit Tigers by throwing five innings and allowing two earned runs.
