The Los Angeles Dodgers are grappling with a struggling pitching staff early in the season, primarily due to various pre-existing and current injuries among key players. After a tough loss to the Cubs, starter Dustin May's underwhelming performance added to the concerns, while key bullpen arms remain sidelined. Manager Dave Roberts mentioned the possibility of a player being called up to provide much-needed innings to relieve the strained bullpen, highlighting the team's ongoing struggles with roster depth and pitching effectiveness.
Even though we’re only in April, the same story appears to be popping up as it pertains to the Dodgers’ pitching staff. The presence of pre-existing injuries, current injuries, and perpetual waiting for guys to return from injury has already categorized the start to the season thus far.
While things are far from dire, there’s some annoyance going on currently with a host of bullpen arms still down (Michael Kopech, Brusdar Graterol, Blake Treinen) and several starting pitchers (Clayton Kershaw, Tony Gonsolin, Shohei Ohtani) still working their way back.
Manager Dave Roberts spoke to the media after the game and made it sound like someone could be coming up. 'There might be a pending move for some length potentially,' Roberts said. 'But I’m gonna talk to the pitching guys here shortly and figure out where we’re at.'
Whomever is called up, Roberts and the Dodgers are hoping they can provide some quality innings to give its already-taxed bullpen a bit of a rest.
