Dave Roberts explains why the Dodgers didn't use Roki Sasaki earlier in Game 2
Facing a three-run lead in the ninth inning of Game 2 of the NLDS, the Dodgers used Blake Treinen for the save rather than Roki Sasaki to manage Sasaki's workload. Sasaki had returned from a shoulder injury, moved to the bullpen, and produced four scoreless outings with a 100-mph fastball and splitter. Sasaki had also appeared in the wild-card series and Game 1 of the NLDS days earlier. Treinen allowed two runs without retiring a batter, prompting Alex Vesia to rely on a defensive wheel play on a Bryson Stott bunt and limit damage. Sasaki later entered to record the final out and is now the primary option for future saves.
"He hasn't gone two out of three [days] much at all. So I didn't want to just kind of preemptively put him in there. I felt good with who we had."
"definitely the primary option now"
